DOUBLE MAJOR HOSTED BY ALEX MCCOMB
On this episode of Double Major, UofT Varsity Blues interim head coach Tommy Kanichis on Red and Blue Bowl week, building a program and the 2014 Panda Game Hail Mary.
Tommy Kanichis is the interim head coach, offensive coordinator and director of recruiting at the University of Toronto. Before that, he was an offensive lineman in the first recruiting class of the relaunched Carleton Ravens. That means he was on the field for the 2014 Panda Game Hail Mary, which host Alex watched from the uOttawa side. He’s still processing it.
Kanichis walks through his path from Carleton to Waterloo, Saint Mary’s, Queen’s and UofT. He also covers Carleton’s win over Alex’s Western Mustangs in 2016, his game plan for York, and what he looks for when recruiting. That includes why he’d rather watch game film than a highlight tape, and his academics-family-football checklist for choosing a school. It all ends with quick hitters, including who he says was the best defensive lineman he ever had to block.
