Doug Ferne receives the British Columbia Football Conference Life Membership from BCFC


After his playing days with the Carleton Ravens Doug moved into the coaching and administration ranks. Below in chronological order are his many positions and accomplishments.

1983 – 1984 – Defensive Coordinator of the Victoria Hornets of the BCJFA Tier II division. Won the BC Championship both those years.
1985 – Hornets moved up to the Tier I division. Payless Gas took over sponsorship. Called Victoria Payless. Doug was again Defensive Coordinator. Team finished 4th.
1986 – Head Coach of Victoria Payless – team finished last with an 0-8 record
1987 – Head Coach of Victoria Payless – team finished second with 6-3-1 record. The 13 point swing in final standings was, and still is the best in BCFC history. As well this year, Doug was honoured by the City of Victoria as Sportsman of the Year.
1988 – Head Coach of Victoria Payless for 3 games before stepping down.
1989 – Doug joined the BCFC board as League Head Coach. Held that position in 1990 and 1991.
1992 – 1993 – BCFC Vice-President and League Head Coach
1994 – 1996 – BCFC League President
2000 – 2003 – Joined the board of the CJFL in 2000 and voted in as Deputy Commissioner. A position
he held for three years
2004 – 2005 – CJFL Commissioner for two years
2006 – Named a Life Member of the CJFL at the Canadian Bowl in Nanaimo
