Durham (LOSSA) Semi-Finals: Titans down Pickering

Under the “Tuesday Night Lights” the Holy Trinity Titans got a chance to prove that the loss to Pickering was a fluke and that they were the better squad. They took the opportunity and ran with it, or more literally locked it down and made it nearly impossible to slip away.

The Titans played excellent defense locking down and containing the elusive two-headed quarterback attack the Pickering ran. The Holy Trinity offense responded to their defensive counterparts with a few game changing plays as well, scoring a touchdown and sustaining many long demoralizing drives that ended in points.

The offense enjoyed amazing field position for much of the first quarter, and with 1:00 left in the quarter they decided to cash it in when quarterback Chris Waldinsperger through a pin point pass over the shoulders of a Pickering defender and into the waiting hands of Brandon Joachim. The defense then went back to it’s dominating ways stopping the Pickering offence in it’s tracks before the speedy Darnell Jarrett before he could get going. The game would go into the second quarter 7-0 Titans.

Late in the in the second, the Titans would once again take advantage of a short field and score points on a Johnny Codrington rouge making the game 8-0 with 2:38 left in the half. The Titans would add a Dan Lay field goal to make the game 11-0 at half time.

The third quarter would prove pivotal as the Titans would have to defend against a possibly re-motivated Trojan squad that would not go out without a fight. The Titans defence would remain as stingy as it started out keeping the Pickering offense at bay and letting the Titans offense capitalize on it. The Titans would notch another field goal to make the score 14-0. Dan Lay would get on the board again with another field goal to make the score 17-0 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Trojans would finally find their offence in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter they would embark on a long drive that would finish in the endzone, a desperate two point conversion attempt would fail and the Titans would get the ball back with 30 seconds left and kneel down to secure themselves a spot in the in the LOSSA  finals for a third fourth straight time.

The Titans will move on to face the undefeated St. Marys Monarchs in what is sure to be an exciting championship match up. The Trojans season is done but with a lot of youth on their team they can look forward to big things next year.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
