East-West clash

East and West set to clash in 24th annual Steel City Bowl.

Tomorrow evening marks the 24th annual Steel City Bowl, a football game that pits some of the Hamilton-Wentworth areas top high school football stars against each other in an all-star game. For the past week the respective teams, East and West, have been practicing in order to show off their talents for friends, families and scouts.

Led by a pair of extremely motivated and skilled coaches, both Jason Hayes for the East and Stefan Ptaszek for the West are doing everything they can to prepare the players and have them performing at their best on Friday night. Hayes is the current head coach for the Hamilton Hurricanes while Ptaszek is the head coach for the McMaster Marauders.

The game is an excellent opportunity for local football players to showcase their talent for recruiters and scouts from across the country and beyond. The winning team is awarded the Cable 14 Cup with players given a tape of the game to help with future recruitment. Many players on the team are currently signed on with post secondary schools already, but many others have a year or two more to play in varsity football.

The game is scheduled for 7pm at McMasterā€™s Ron Joyce Stadium after being held at Ivor Wynne for more than a decade.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
