Week two
Week two review of the games, and the scores.
The Wolverines had their second game of the season on Friday the 20th, against the Lloydminster Red Dogs. Defense was strong, and worked hard to keep the game close, but the Red Dogs continued their undefeated record winning against the Wolves 24-0. The coaches commented that the ‘Defense’ is what is leading the team. This Saturday the Red Dogs travel to take on the South Edmonton Chargers. This is the first time they have met, so head coach Rod Kirby admits he isnβt sure what to expect. Next game for the Wolverines is Saturday against The battle river shock.
After a shocking loss to the Parkland Predators on April 15 at Clarke Park. The St Albert Storm shook the doubts away with a convincing 35-7 victory over the Millwoods Grizzlies last Thursday at Johnny Bright Park. βWe played as a team overall really good. Our line-up stepped it up,β Running back Nathan Pytel said. βWe showed what I would say is our true team and our true capabilities. We can play with any team in this league, we just have to be ready and prepared.β The Storm scored two TDs in the first half, including their opening drive against the Grizzlies, and after three quarters led 29-7. The Storm will meet up again with Parkland on Friday April 27[SUP]th[/SUP]at Riel.
The Battle River Shock remain undefeated and are proving to be the toughest team in tier 3/4 , as they beat the Leduc Ti-Cats 21-14 on Apr. 20 out in St Albert. The Battle River Shock wasted no time in taking the lead over the βCats as they aired it out on their second offensive play, which led to a 49 yard touchdown to give the away team a quick 7-0 lead after the convert. On the next offensive play, Leducβs offense finally broke out as Jarret Burzuk, Leducβs quarterback, hit Sean Gregg for a 17 yard gain, leaving the βCats with a crucial first and goal from the one yard line. The βCats were stuffed on a run on the next play, but Burzuk hit Gregg for a three yard touchdown on the next play to tie the game up at 7-7 with less than three minutes remaining in the half. With less than 15 seconds left in the half the Shock struck for an 11 yard touchdown pass to give them the lead heading into the second half 14-7.
With10 minutes to go in the game, Leduc gambled on a third and eight. It ended up paying off as Gregg hauled in his second touchdown of the game β this time a 48 yard catch and run from Burzuk. With the momentum on their side, Leducβs Jayden Dalke came up with a fumble recovery on the Shockβs very next offensive series. Gregg continued to be the go to guy on offense for the βCats, hauling in a couple clutch catches to keep his teamβs final drive going. But the time ran out on Leduc and Battle River walked away with a 21-14 win in the second game of the season.
Itβs been nothing but success so far this year for the Predators football club with a 4-0 record, but no one is taking anything for granted. Coming off a 56-7 win on Tuesday night over the Mill Woods Grizzlies, head coach Chris Fricker said his team is staying focused on what they need to do to be successful and so far, itβs paying off. The latest victory was their second of the week, following a 28-20 win over the Mustangs, βWeβre pretty strong this year so I think we would have had the same types of scores against the other teams in the league (Tier 2) this year. Us and the Mustangs though are good. St. Albert is also getting far better.”
βThe guys on offense are more experienced,βFricker said. βThe defense has also been playing really well.Theyβve been turning the ball over. Thereβs lots of things to fine-tune on D, thatβs for sure, but I think theyβve been getting better and better every week.β
The Edmonton Chargers won there second game of the season against the Edmonton Seahawks, 13-2. Giving the team a good confidence boost.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
