Edmonton Eskimos Sign Former TCU and Stanford Standouts (Video 2x)

The Edmonton Eskimos have signed a pair free agents – safety/kick returner Brian Bonner and cornerback Wopamo Osaisai (Woh-pamo Oh-Say-Say), the club announced today.

Brian Bonner (5-11, 205lbs) earned all Mountain West Conference honours as both a safety and kick returner during his career at Texas Christian University. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the NFL’s San Diego Chargers in 2008.

Eskimo General Manager Eric Tillman says Brian is a versatile athlete that Paul Jones is very high on. Although he played safety at the collegiate and pro level, we view Brian as another hybrid guy who can come in and compete at multiple positions in Rich Stubler system

Wopamo Osaisai (5-10, 199lbs) started 25 games at cornerback during his career at Stanford. He attended San Diego’s 2009 training camp. Osaisai was as a collegiate track star, setting a school record with a 10.39 in the 100 metre dash in 2008.

On the signing of Osaisai , Tillman says Wopamo will bring a strong level of competition to our secondary where he will get a look at all three spots during camp. His chances of making our club will certainly be enhanced by the consistent high quality of his special teams play.

The Eskimos open their 2011 Training Camp Sunday, June 5th at Clarke Stadium in Edmonton.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
