Eskimos release Kabongo, Bauman, and Osaisai

Edmonton – Eskimos General Manager Eric Tillman announced today the club has released non-import offensive lineman Patrick Kabongo, non-import receiver Chris Bauman and import defensive back Wopamo Osaisai.

Kabongo is an eight year veteran, who played at the University of Nebraska. A native of Montreal, he joined the Eskimos in August of 2004 via a trade with Ottawa. Kabongo has been a multi-year all-star and a two time David Boone Memorial Award recipient for his outstanding work in the community.

Bauman, a product of the Regina Rams, was the first overall selection in the 2007 draft. He spent four years with the Hamilton Ticats and, then, in February of 2011 signed with the Eskimos as a free agent. The 6-4 220 pound receiver has 125 career catches for 1643 yards.

Osaisai, a Stanford graduate, played in six games as a cornerback in 2011. He spent time with the San Diego Chargers before coming to the CFL.

“We would like to thank all three men for their contributions to our club, especially, of course, Patrick who has earned substantial respect in our community and organization,” said Tillman. “This can be a tough business, and in a salary cap era, many factors have to be taken into consideration when making decisions – age, salary and performance. That said, it’s quite possible at least one of these men will be returning to our club in 2012.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
