EXCLUSIVE: X-Men responds to reports (VIDEO)

After several reports from media outlets surfaced yesterday that the St.FX X-Men football program may be in jeopardy based on a review as well as recommendations made in the school’s Presidential Task Force Report (released early this month), the football program and athletic director has responded exclusively to CanadaFootballChat.com

Below is the official response to those reports:

“I appreciate the opportunity to comment, as I want to ensure the football community is properly informed when it comes to this issue.  StFX X-Men football is, and will continue to be, one of the best-supported programs in our community,” responded X-Men Director of Athletics and Recreation Leo MacPherson.  “The report and our new athletics strategic plan, entitled StFX LEADS, will serve as a catalyst to how we can more appropriately resource our programs, including football, to make them even stronger and that’s exactly what we’ve been doing.”

“X-MEN football is a program on the rise and we are committed to doing what we can to make it a championship caliber program.”

“StFX football is in a very good place right now and we have been working hard to showcase the nation’s premier undergraduate university to Canada’s top recruits,” added X-Men Head Coach Gary Waterman.  “The feedback and interest we are receiving in recruiting is amazing.”

“Our players and coaches have been preparing extremely hard this season and we have seen the results, as we will be hosting the conference semi-final this weekend at Oland Stadium.”

StFX ranks first in conference attendance and 12th nationally.  The overall support for football at StFX is among the strongest in the CIS.   Our alumni support for football is very strong and they will always be a key part of our future success.

“The vibe around football here at X is at an all-time high and the alumni support is as strong as ever,” explained X-Men Offensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator Steve Snyder.  “We are excited about the 2015 recruiting movement and the future of X-MEN Football, the youth and enthusiasm in our program is excellent.”

“We feel we have a championship contending team and a core group that can continue to compete for championships for years to come.”

“The timing fits well as we recently completed our new strategic plan for St F.X. Athletics and football is very much at the forefront of our plans,” expressed MacPherson.
