FCCA Convention 2011 recap


The 2011 Football Canada Coaches Association (FCCA) convention is now in the books. The inaugural event attracted 211 participants including 134 coaching delegates, 19 volunteers, 6 organizing committee members, 18 speakers and 34 exhibitor delegates. Coach Marc Trestman, after his great presentation, commented on the convention saying it was a “first class event”. Nick Inzerello from USA Football said it was “as good as any clinic & convention I have ever attended. Every coach knew their craft and I learned a ton this weekend”.

Some of the high lights of the two day event included:

HILITES FROM THE WEEKEND:

– Tom Annett (Sault Ste. Marie) wowed everyone in attendance with a great presentation on the ‘no huddle’ offense

– Marc Trestman showed why he is a back-to-back Grey Cup champion with a thorough and informative presentation

– Duane Forde’s presentation on running backs was a tremendous introduction for any coach

– Burke Erwin showed how Barrie North practices and prepares their high school players

– Corey Chamblin got the crowd involved with his defensive back and defensive system presentation

– “Investor’s Group Volunteer Sport Administrator Award” award handed out to Paul Bartle

– Veteran CFL coach and GM Adam Rita enjoying all the presentations he attended

– Heath Weir showing how Huron Heights runs and practices the triple, veer, and mid-line option

– Mike Rumleski’s presentation on 6-a-side football and how schools with small populations can still be a ‘football school’

– Bob Swan explaining the research behind Football Canada’s ‘Long Term Athlete Development’ (LTAD) model and the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP)

– the exhibitor hall, introducing coaches to a variety of products from Riddell, Marchants, Rawlings, Alpha QB Academy, Super Elite Football Camp, Baron Rings, Jostens, Sport Supply Company, and Big Kahuna

– Joe Mlinaric explaining the Essex Ravens 30 defense

– USA high school coach Paul Wilson telling the audience how they run their 12-month program and what they do on special teams

– Mike Danichewsky showing a variety of drills and game film used at the minor football level

– Mike MacDonald & Mike Samples with a spirited presentation on Offensive & Defensive line play and bringing along some of their own players to demonstrate drills

– Glenn Kulka’s discussion on clean sports and the downfalls of prolonged Steroid use

– NFL veteran coach John Levra getting the delegates involved demonstrating a variety of drills

– Nick Inzerello’s presentation on their age appropriate research and the work they have done with Football Canada and other sports organizations around the world

– Greg Marshall (Saskatchewan Roughriders) using 4 Corpus Christi high school players to demonstrate defensive line pass rush drills and techniques

– Marcel Bellefeuille (Hamilton Tiger Cats) relating what they do with the Ti-Cats and how you can use the information to apply to your minor or high school teams

The FCCA organizing committee would like to thank all 211 participants that made this such a great event. The FCCA plans to evaluate the feedback and other variables and announce some time this summer the 2012 date and location of the convention.
