First 2015 commitment

London wide receiver becomes first recruit to join OUA team’s 2015 class.

Robert Summerfield has earned a dubious distinction.

The 6’0, 170 pound wide receiver from London, Ontario has become the first recruit from Class 2015 to commit to a CIS school.

As for where he will begin his CIS career, it will be with the Waterloo Warriors.

β€œI committed to Waterloo for many factors including how great of an academic program they have and how it’s student first athlete second,” commented Summerfield.Β  β€œThey have a great football program as of right now and it’s only going to get better!”

Two individuals are credited for having a positive influence on Summerfield’s decision – Warriors defensive assistant Nial Both and recent Warriors commit, Ethan McDonagh.

β€œOne of the major reasons why I did commit though was because of Coach Both who invited me for a tour, and treated me like one of his players already,” expressed Summerfield. Β β€œAlso, I committed so early because I’ve wanted to go to Waterloo since around grade 10, and one of my friends also just committed Ethan McDonagh so I’m extremely pumped to play with Ethan and be a part of Waterloo.”

The London offensive standout is currently preparing for his final season with Saunders Sabres of the Thames Valley Region Athletic Association (TVRAA).

Summerfield’s commitment is verbal. Β As per CIS rules, he will not be able to officially sign with the Warriors until September 2014.
