Football Canada Cup QBs: Meet Team Ontario – West’s Finch & Roberts (video)


As part of its extensive Football Canada Cup coverage CFC will be profiling the “Quarterbacks of the Football Canada Cup”. The Football Canada Cup takes place July 9 to 16th in Lethbridge, Alberta. The teams competing in the Under-18 format include British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario-West, Ontario-East, Quebec & Nova Scotia. Today we profile the Quarterbacks from Team Ontario – West:


Will Finch (Nelson / Burlington Stampeders)

Class 2012

Will has been playing football for 10 years, 7 as a quarterback. He played ‘mite’ in the Burlington Minor Football Association (BMFA) and tyke, atom, peewee, junior varsity, & varsity with the Burlington Stampeders. He has played high school for Nelson, entering his grade 12 season this fall.

Will has had a variety of quarterback coaches during his seven years including Mike Finch, Larry Jusdanis, Danny Brannagan (senior & junior). He also attended camps in the United States including the Darin Slack Quarterback Academy (Orlando Florida). He has been invited to Nike Elite 11 camps at Central Florida, Penn State, Ohio State.

When asked about this years Football Canada Cup Will had this to say. “It’s going to be a good ten days, because of the high level of Canadian competition. It is a good chance to experience University coaching, from installation of offenses to university style training camp. It’ll be good to meet new guys across Canada.”


James Roberts (Jacob Hespeler / Cambridge Lions)

Class 2013

James started playing football and QB in his grade nine year at Jacob Hespeler Secondary School (JHSS) and has played QB for the JHSS hawks for 2 years and this summer is his second year as a Cambridge Lion.

James has learned the position from as many sources as possible and will continue with that “desire to learn as much as possible.” The main coach that has taught him the skills of Quarterbacking is Mark Paddock the head coach of the junior football team at Jacob Hespeler. “If it wasn’t for Coach Paddock I would not have the privilege to be participating in this years Canada Cup.”

When asked about this years Football Canada Cup James had this to say. “I believe this years Canada Cup is going to be very competitive and exciting. I am very eager to begin the tournament and be apart of a Team Ontario West championship.”
