FOOTBALL CANADA TO HOST SENIOR NATIONAL TEAM SELECTION CAMPS FEBRUARY 26 AND 27

In preparation for the 2011 International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Senior World
Championship, Football Canada is conducting a series of three selection camps to determine the players who will represent Canada as members of the Senior Men’s National Team. The IFAF Senior World Championship is slated for July 6-18, 2011 in Austria.

The first of these selection camps took place in Moncton on January 30. The remaining two camps are scheduled for Saturday, February 26 in Saskatoon at the Saskatchewan Soccer Centre and Sunday, February 27 in Guelph at the Marden Fieldhouse. Both camps will run from 9 am – 4 pm and are open to members of the media.

The morning session will consist of physical testing such as the 40-yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, standing long jump and shuttle run while the afternoon session will include several on-field one-on-one positional drills. Current and former players from Canadian university, junior and senior football, as well as the NCAA, will be competing for selection to the Team Canada roster.

Football Canada’s 2011 coaching staff includes head coach Larry Haylor, former University of Western Ontario head coach who holds the CIS record for most wins (178), offensive coordinator Greg Marshall, currently the head coach at Western, and defensive coordinator Glen Constantin, the reigning CIS coach of the year and head coach at Université Laval. This trio is joined by assistant coaches Blake Nill (head coach of the Calgary Dinos), Brian Towriss (head coach of the Saskatchewan Huskies), Steve Sumarah (head coach at Saint Mary’s) and Pat Tracey (Queen’s Defensive Coordinator).

Held every four years beginning in 1999, the 2011 IFAF Senior Men’s World Championship marks
Football Canada’s entrance into the senior men’s competition. Football Canada has enjoyed previous
success at IFAF events, having captured silver medals at both the 2010 Senior Women’s and 2009 Junior Men’s World Championships. Team USA is the reigning 2007 Senior Men’s World Champion. Rounding out the field for this event are Mexico, Germany, Austria, France and the winner of a Japan vs Korea qualifier to be played February 26.
