FOOTBALL CANADA UNVEILS JUNIOR NATIONAL TEAM SUPPORT STAFF

Football Canada is proud to announce its Junior National Team support staff, representing Canada at the 2012 IFAF Junior World Championship in Austin, Texas.

Patrick Gendron and Jean-Baptiste Laporte will serve as Team Canada’s athletic therapists, Jeremy Clothier as video coordinator, Jacques Gilbault as equipment manager and Elliot Richardson as strength and conditioning coach.

β€œI’ve had the opportunity to work closely with almost all of these gentlemen at either the university or professional levels,” said Head Coach, Noel Thorpe. β€œEach brings a high level of professionalism, knowledge and tremendous work ethic to our team.”

Jean-Baptiste Laporte is a veteran of Football Canada’s National Team Program having previously served as athletic therapist with the 2009 Junior and 2011 Senior Men’s National Teams. Also serving as athletic therapist is Patrick Gendron who currently serves the same role with the UniversitΓ© de MontrΓ©al Carabins.

Jeremy Clothier enters his second year with the Carabins, where he is an offensive assistant and handles video coordinator duties.

A veteran equipment manager who spent a number of years with the CFL’s MontrΓ©al Alouettes, Jacques Guilbault, will serve as Team Canada’s equipment manager. He enters his first season working with the equipment staff at the UniversitΓ© de MontrΓ©al.

Strength and conditioning coach, Elliot Richardson rounds out Team Canada’s support staff. He currently holds the same position at Acadia University, having helped a number of Acadia’s football players to strong showings at March’s CFL combine.

For the first time in National Team program history, the support staff includes a strength and conditioning coach. β€œI thought this was necessary to add as part of the programs’ and athlete’s overall development,” explained Thorpe. β€œWe want our players to be physically ready to perform at their highest level during this tournament style format.”

Former Team Canada Running Backs Coach, Terry Eisler has accepted a position with the Edmonton Eskimos. His coaching responsibilities will be taken over by Special Teams Coordinator and Running Backs Coach, Gilles Lezi.
