Football encompasses QB Boudreau’s entire world

There is something so compelling about football for Mathieu Boudreau that he was not short of words when conveying his feelings for the sport he loves.

“Football means everything to me. It’s a passion. It’s something I look up to everyday,” Boudreau said. “I love everything about my position. I love having the football in my hands every play.”

Set to join Les Géants du Cégep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu (RSEQ Division 1), Boudreau seeks to become a starter in his freshman year. It won’t be too difficult if he continues to emulate his quarterback inspiration, Tom Brady of the New England Patriots. “I grew up looking at him play because he is such a patient, smart and good leader,” Boudreau said.

Currently with the midget Wildcats de Laurentides-Lanaudière (QMFL), Boudreau was a hot commodity during recruitment. “When I was being recruited, it was amazing. I had the chance to talk to a bunch of Cégeps, almost every Division One Cégep, and it was fun getting messages from them and visits,” he said.

In the end, he chose Les Géants, a decision he has confidence in. He said that he believes he will be able to adjust to Division One football because of the coaches at St-Jean. “They know what they are doing and I believe in the process it takes to become a starter,” he added.

With his football career still in its infancy, the former member of Team Québec (QBFL) at the Spaulding Cup has had some support along the way. He took time to thank his parents, who he said are the “most influential people in my life. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am right now and I am truly grateful and thankful to have them.”

Before the new Cégep season, Boudreau will be training with Dubz Nation in order to become physically ready for the next level. During the regular season, he had 28 touchdowns in 10 games and eight touchdowns in three playoff games with the Wildcats. At the Spaulding Cup, he had nine touchdowns. His stellar season play earned him a spot of the 2nd Team All-Star, as well as the league all-star team. He has also won offensive and team MVP. As a reigning regular season champion, he was the MVP of the finals.

There is plenty to love in the game of football, but for Boudreau, there is one thing in particular that captivates him the most. “Every time the ball is in the air, it’s as if time stops and it’s just an amazing feeling,” he said. “Football is something I’d be willing to die for.”
