Football New Brunswick announces head coach for U18 – 2012 Canada Cup ID Program

Football New Brunswick is pleased to announce that Ed Wasson has been appointed the head coach of the provincial U18 program.

Football New Brunswick will be offer a U18 (born in 1994 or 1995) provincial program in 2011. The final details of the program are still being worked on but the program will include regional teams in each of Moncton, Saint John and Fredericton, interlocking play between these teams (and possibly a PEI team), selection of a provincial team with a home and away series with either Quebec or Nova Scotia. The intent of this program is to build a foundation that will see New Brunswick participate in the Football Canadaā€™s 2012 Football Canada Cup.

Ed Wasson is a certified NCCP level II coach and is also qualified as a course conductor for the new NCCP ā€œIntroduction to Competitionā€.

He began his football coaching career in Salisbury NB coaching with the JMA Cougars in 1995 starting at D-line and progressing through a variety of positions, DB’s, Linebackers and O-line as well as coaching the kickers. He has served as the head coach of the Moncton Football Associationā€™s Bantam Highlanders (2002-2003) and as the head coach of the Bernice MacNaughton High School Highlanders (2004- present). The Highlanders, under Wasson, have won provincial high school championships in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and were runner ups in 2010 losing 15-14 to FHS.

New Brunswick has not had a provincial U18 team for a number of years but has decided to re-entry the field. ā€œI was contacted by Pete Miller and Terry Tait in the summer and they wanted to know what would have to be done to get NB back into playing at the national level, specifically the Football Canada Cupā€, said Arliss Wilson, president of Football New Brunswick. ā€œWe have had a number of meeting and discussions and we are now ready for the next phaseā€.

Wilson went on to add, ā€œThe success that coach Wasson has had is phenomenal and with him agreeing to head up our program we will be attaching many other highly qualified and motivated coaches and playersā€.
