Football wins for Lancers’ multi-sport commit

Windsor brings in a local, versatile athlete to their Class of 2017.

Patrick Douangchantha, a receiver from Catholic Central High School, has been a multi-sport athlete for years, but now he is set to carry on in football with the University of Windsor Lancers.

Having a chance to play any sport at the university level is always exciting, though being able to do so at home is even sweeter. β€œI chose this school because it was closer to my family and I feel I could be a great addition to the organization and represent my hometown,” the product of Windsor, Ontario, said.

Douangchantha has already had the chance to get a feel for the Lancers’ coaching staff. He said he has been working with some of the coaches outside of high school football and they have helped him out a lot. β€œGreat mentors and coaches,” he added. β€œI haven’t had the chance to work with the rest of the coaching staff, but they appear to be solid.”

The four-year Catholic Central Comet (Windsor-Essex County Secondary School Athletics Association) is looking to take forensic science in university. Standing at 5’10, 176lbs, he never confined himself to football. He also played basketball and ran tack and field. Although he said he started high school as an all-star basketball player, he picked up football pretty quickly.

In 2016, he was a First Team All-City quarterback. On the basketball side of things, he was a 2013 WECSSAA champion and a 2017 BTG 7on7 state champion and WECSSAA all-star. He was the only person to score 40 points in a playoff basketball game this season. He has also attended OFSAA multiple times for the 100m and running long jump competitions.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
