Footballer Saturley wins Acadia athlete of the year


Acadia University’s Department of Varsity Athletics celebrated the conclusion of the 2010 season at
the annual Fred Kelly Awards Banquet, which bears the name of Dr. Major Fred G. Kelly, an individual who gave willingly and kindly, 41 years of dedicated service to Acadia Athletics and Maritime Sport.

The 2009-2010 Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year was awarded to senior football defensive lineman Adrian Saturley (Terence Bay, NS). Named as the Axemen football team’s Most Valuable Player and honoured as the AUS Lineman of the Year, Saturley represented the AUS conference for the National CIS J.P. Metras Award for top lineman of the country in CIS Football.

Saturley averaged 1.36 sacks per game for a season total of seven solo sacks and five assisted sacks despite not playing in the last season game or the two post season games due to an injury. With his seven sacks this season, Saturley set a new benchmark for the most sacks in a career with 21 sacks in five seasons.
