Alex Skinner (9), Laval Rouge et Or
As reported in Le Journal de Quebec, former quarterback for the Laval Rouge et Or is suing the university forΒ $250,000. The lawsuit is against the school for loss of opportunity and damage to reputation.
Skinner left the team after he was suspended due to a charge of assault in 2013, which he was eventually cleared of in 2016.
The altercation took place in a bar for which an off duty officer lodged the complaint against Skinner for assault. Skinner was with his teammates at the time.
While Skinner informed head coach, Glen Constantin, just days after the incident, he was made aware that Constantin was already aware of the situation. After being reassured that the program would support Skinner in the proceedings, he would also have to pass a polygraph test to attest for his honesty.
Coincidentally, Laval won the Vanier Cup with Skinner as the quarterback in 2013 and the day after the celebration, was charged. A three game suspension was ruled for the 2014 season.
While attempting to plead his case to the Rouge et Or program, he believes he was punished due to the negative media attention that the incident incurred and was taken advantage of by the program for the 2013 championship run.
Skinner never played for the team again, leaving after his three game suspension, in which he lost his starting spot during that time.
The 2016 verdict cleared Skinner of all charges as the testimony of the plaintiff was discredited and Skinner was deemed to have acted in self-defense.
The suit was filed in court on Wednesday for $250,000 for damages and loss of opportunity as he states the opportunities to play professionally and the consequences of the whole ordeal have had a major negative impact on his life.
