Former Marauder Mboko returns to McMaster

His last stint at McMaster lasted just four games, but Esaie Mboko is hopeful for much more as he returns to the Marauders this fall.

Originally recruited in 2014, the receiver and return man featured in the first four games of that season before an injury knocked him out of competition for the remainder of the year. Forced to the sidelines, Mboko watched as his teammates advanced to the Vanier Cup, before leaving McMaster altogether at the end of his first year.

But, healthy and motivated to contribute once again on the field, Mboko will return to Mac this fall, and is a welcome re-injection of talent and athleticism for coach Greg Knox and his Marauders.

“We’re excited to have Esaie back in the fold,” says Knox. “He is an explosive, dynamic athlete that I’m sure will have positive impact on our program.”

For Mboko, there remained a level of comfort at McMaster years after his initial involvement, and he cited encouragement from athletic therapist Chris Puskas and former teammate Max Cameron in approaching the Marauders once again.

He came away from discussions with Knox impressed, and appreciated the firm but fair approach that, crucially for Mboko, resonated well with his family.

Eager to take on whatever role the Marauders throw at him, whether it be as a receiver, returner or defensive back, Mboko is pleased to once again be playing in the rabid football community of Hamilton.

“Hamilton is such a great football city,” he says. “I’ve never seen anything like it.

“These people bleed football.”
