Former Sioux Prinsen named Eskimos’ O-line coach

EDMONTON, Alberta–Tim Prinsen is returning to the Canadian Football League’s Edmonton Eskimos. Only this time, he is doing so as a member of the organization’s coaching staff.

Prinsen, a standout offensive lineman at the University of North Dakota from 1993 to 1996, was named Edmonton’s offensive line coach on Thursday, rejoining the organization for which he played from 2000 to 2004.

A native of Edmonton, Prinsen spent the previous four seasons as the offensive line coach at the University of Alberta.

Prinsen was a four-year letterwinner at UND and earned All-America honors as a senior in 1996. He was a first team All-North Central Conference selection in each of his final two years and helped lead the Fighting Sioux to three consecutive NCC titles from 1993 to 1995.

After graduating from UND, Prinsen was selected fourth overall by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 1997 CFL Draft and went on to enjoy an eight-year career with Hamilton and Edmonton. He won a Grey Cup in 1999 with the Tiger-Cats and another in 2003 with the Eskimos.

Prinsen becomes the fourth former Sioux currently coaching or playing in the CFL. His former UND teammate, Tim Tibesar (1993-96), is the linebackers coach for the defending Grey Cup champion Montreal Alouettes. Defensive back Donovan Alexander and receiver Weston Dressler, UND teammates from 2004 to 2007, both currently play for the defending West Division champion Saskatchewan Roughriders.

UND also boasts a pair of former student-athletes currently playing in the National Football League in Minnesota Vikings tight end Jim Kleinsasser and Denver Broncos offensive lineman Chris Kuper.
