Upon his commitment to the Mounties, Darling issued the following statement:

β€œThere are a few factors that helped with my decision to commit to Mount Allison University.”

β€œIn regards to the school itself, I preferred the feeling on campus and throughout Sackville that it was truly small and friendly, which is an atmosphere which I am relatively used to in Fort McMurray and at my high school.”

β€œAlong with this small town feel, the class sizes and ratio of students to professors (17:1) also matched up with what the environment I have been learning in for the last nine years, which I hope will help me to ease into the high school to university difficulty jump.”

β€œFor the factors that influenced my decisions that have to do with the team, these include the fact that the team felt like a family. Everyone felt like they knew everyone else on the team, and they seemed incredibly friendly to me while I was visiting the campus, without feeling like they were being forced to be nice to influence my decision to go there.”

β€œI had the opportunity to sit in on a defensive film meeting and an entire practice, as well as getting to talk to all of the coaches. The way the team acted during practice and the structure of the practice really appealed to me. It was a step further from the practices I’ve been used to for the past few years, and it seemed like what was necessary to win championships.”

β€œI wouldn’t want to join a program where the players or coaches were unmotivated. All of the coaches seemed incredibly professional and qualified, but also seemed to be in touch with their players.”
