WATERLOO, Ont. – Wilfrid Laurier men’s football quarterback James Fracas of Waterloo, Ont., has been invited to attend the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 2014 training camp next month.
The Golden Hawks’ pivot, who is entering his fourth year with the team, will work side-by-side with other Tiger-Cats quarterbacks in meetings and on the field as part of the Canadian Football League’s (CFL) initiative to assist in the development of Canadian quarterbacks.
“This is a great opportunity to learn and develop under the very knowledgable coaching staff of the Tiger-Cats, commented Fracas. “It is an honour to be selected to attend their training camp, and the experience will allow me to develop my skills for this upcoming OUA football season.”
“We are really excited that James has been asked to participate in the Ti-Cats training camp,” added Laurier head coach Michael Faulds. “This is a great opportunity for him to learn and prepare like a pro. He will enter our training camp with even more confidence this August.”
Fracas, a graduate of Sir John A. MacDonald in Waterloo, had a breakout season behind centre for the purple and gold in his second year of eligibility. He started the Hawks’ final five games of the season, leading them to their only win of the year against the Waterloo Warriors. He finished the year with 1,312 yards and six touchdowns while adding 113 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. His outstanding play in a Week 7 overtime loss to the eventual Yates Cup finalist Queen’s Gaels earned him OUA Athlete of the Week honours and he wrapped up the season by earning Laurier’s Luke Fusco Academic Athletic Achievement Award.
