FRC – CIS football players of the week (#1): Nadeau-Piuze, Lemoyne and Harty honoured


OTTAWA (CIS) – A quarterback who came off the bench and rallied his team from an early deficit, a defensive player from France and a rookie from junior football are the FRC-CIS players of the week.

OFFENCE

Alexandre Nadeau-Piuze
Quarterback, University of Montreal

When Alexandre Nadeau-Piuze joined the action during the second quarter in replacement of Yan Cyr, he completely changed the course of the match with the Carabins trailing 7-1 against the McGill Redmen. The fourth year pivot from Repentigny, QC threw three touchdown passes before the halftime break to put his side in the driver’s seat, up 22-7. Nadeau-Piuze completed 23 of 32 attempted passes for 283 yards.

DEFENCE

Billy Lemoine
Defensive end, University of Sherbrooke

Lemoine was rock solid on the D-Line. The defensive end picked up a pair of assisted tackles and six solo tackles for a total of seven. The native of Tour, France also collected a sack for a loss of 11 yards and provoked a fumble. The senior led the Vert & Or to a 25-23 win over next-door neighbours Bishop’s Gaiters.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Jake Harty
Reciever/Returner, Calgary Dinos

Jake Harty didn’t wait long to make his presence felt in CIS football.

On his first touch of the football in his first regular season game, Harty returned a Manitoba kickoff 88 yards to the end zone to score the Calgary Dinos’ first touchdown of the season.
On three subsequent kickoff returns, the former Calgary Colt junior added another 71 yards, racked up a 22-yard punt return, and led the Dinos with 61 receiving yards on the afternoon as they came from behind to defeat the Manitoba Bisons 35-31 in Winnipeg.

His 242 all-purpose yards lead Canada West after Week 1, with 181 of those coming courtesy the return game.
