FS Bruning-Haid’s lofty dreams

Grant Park Pirates Geno Bruning-Haid credits his best friend

Multi-sport athlete, Geno Bruning-Haid, has suited up for one team in his time on the gridiron. Bruning-Haid is a three year starter for the Winnipeg High School Football League’s 3-0 Grant Park Pirates.

There were a few highlights from last season for Geno. Playing more on special teams than he did in junior varsity was one and also, “I got to be more of a threat to the other team. And I got my first interception,” mentioned the young standout.

In everyday life, Geno looks to his parents for support. Geno’s parents have helped him get through school and support him no matter what he does.

Geno’s coaches have been a huge help to him on and off the field. He mentioned, “My coaches who push me to my limits and help me strive and achieve goals both in school and football.”

One of the most influential people to Bruning-Haid may be his best friend and linebacker for the Pirates, #32 Roey Efron. Geno said of Efron, “My best friend Roey Efron who convinced me to play in the first part and trains with me so we both become better players and friends.”

Outside of football Geno Bruning-Haid also plays provincial waterpolo and rugyby for Grant Park.

When he’s done with Grant Park, Geno plans on going to university or college but scholarships would make an impact where he wants to go. Geno added, “I hope to one day play in the CFL for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.”

So far Bruning-Haid has been invited to a few camps and the recruitment process has gone well.

For his training Geno is in the weight room 4 times a week and swims.

In order to keep improving his production on the field, Geno Bruning-Haid is going to do speed training and work on playing both ways so that he can be a double threat on offence and defence.
