Gabriel Cousineau new Offensive Coordinator for Carabins

Change of career for Marco Iadeluca, new role for Gabriel Cousineau

Montreal, July 18, 2018 – Receiving coach and former star quarterback Gabriel Cousineau of the Université de Montréal’s Carabins football team is the new offensive coordinator.

His appointment follows the decision of Marco Iadeluca who accepted a job in sports management at Collège André-Grasset. The latter led the offensive side of the ball since 2011. Iadeluca remains however within the coaching staff of the Carabins for the 2018 season and will support Cousineau in the transition.

“At this point, it’s a very good opportunity for my career and my family,” said Iadeluca, father of three young girls. It was not an easy decision, because I deeply adore the Carabins. I’ve always been interested in sports management and that’s something I wanted to add to my journey, added the one who completed a university degree in administration.

“It was also very important for me to make a transition and it is with great pleasure that I will support Gabriel, who has already demonstrated his potential. ”

Maciocia understands his decision

“I understand Marco’s decision and I’m happy for him. He will have the chance to play a role that has long attracted him and to join his brother, “said head coach Danny Maciocia. Note that Tony Iadeluca is the head coach of the Phoenix football André-Grasset.

“He has contributed greatly to our successes and to building our football program. He will not be with us full time, but I look forward to continuing to win games with him this fall. Marco has been a personal friend for more than 30 years, and his decision does not change our relationship that goes far beyond football. ”

Cousineau made his classes

Maciocia was also pleased to count on the presence of Gabriel Cousineau to ensure the continuity of the management of the offense.

“Gabriel has been in our system for over seven years, he knows our team culture and has worked extremely hard in recent years to develop as a coach. He has a lot of potential. Even Jason Maas (head coach and offensive coordinator of the Edmonton Eskimos) was telling me recently that Gabriel was ready to play a bigger role. ”

Recall that Cousineau has been a guest coach at the Eskimos training camp for the past two seasons. He is presently at the Canada Cup in Calgary where he leads the offense on the Quebec team aged 18 and under. He held the same role at the recent East-West Challenge, an event bringing together Canada’s best prospects for the CFL draft. As a quarterback, he led the Blues to the Vanier Cup final twice, winning the highest honors in 2014.

“For sure, I’m currently split between two emotions,” said Cousineau. As much as I am saddened by Marco’s decision, who has been a mentor to me for eight years, I know it’s a great opportunity and a challenging challenge for me. ”

“It’s a bit of a natural succession of things for me. I know all the workings of the team because I have been working there for several years and I understand the reality of the players. We are counting on a group of talented and dedicated athletes and I will be ready to face this new role. ”

A new full-time offensive coach

The Carabins are actively looking for a new full-time assistant coach to supplement their offensive staff for next season. The training camp of the university season will start on August 10th. The Carabins will begin their regular schedule on Friday, Aug. 24 by hosting the McGill Redmen at CEPSUM.
