Gaels head to Hamilton for OUA Playoff tilt

KINGSTON, Ont. (October 27, 2010) – The Queen’s Gaels head to Hamilton this Saturday to take on the McMaster Marauders in OUA Quarter-final action.

This is the second meeting between these two teams in 2010 after McMaster took the season opener by a 23-18 score. Justin Chapdelaine (Abbotsford, B.C.) starred for the Gaels on offence as his 315 passing yards paced the Queen’s offence. On defence, Sam Sabourin (Stittsville, Ont.) made a statement in his first ever game as a Gael. Sabourin led Queen’s with 13 tackles on the evening, breaking a Gaels record and earning CIS Defensive Player of the Week in the process.

The Gaels enter this weekend’s playoff tilt on a winning note after they defeated the York Lions by a 52-14 score last Saturday. Chapdelaine led the Gaels passing attack with a stellar day. His 31 completions on 40 attempts for 448 yards and four passing touchdowns guided a dominant Gaels attack. Chapdelaine would also go on to add another touchdown on the ground. Ryan Granberg (Sherwood Park, Alta.) also had a fantastic day with 166 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Dan Village (Abbotsford, B.C.) made history last weekend when he became the all-time leading scorer for Queen’s with 271 points in his career. Sam Sabourin also broke a record for the Gaels as his 10.5 tackles against York gave him 50 solo tackles on the season. Sabourin’s 50 solo tackles are one more than Adam Ross had in 2006 when he had 49.

McMaster was on their bye week last weekend. They have not played since October 16 when they beat the Toronto Varsity Blues in Toronto by a 40-21 score.

This marks the second consecutive season that Queen’s and McMaster will play one another in the OUA playoffs. Last season saw the Gaels beat the Marauders by a 32-6 score in Kingston in the OUA Semi-finals. The win was the Gaels first playoff victory in 2009 en route to their Vanier Cup Championship.

Saturday’s game will take place at Ron Joyce Stadium in Hamilton, Ontario. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm.
