Gaels to visit Concordia in non-conference exhibition game

KINGSTON – The Queen’s Gaels football team will be travelling to Montreal for a non-conference exhibition game against the Concordia Stingers who play in the RSEQ of the CIS on August 23 with kick-off set for 2pm.

This will mark the second straight season that the two schools have met prior to the start of conference play as Concordia made the trip to Richardson Stadium last August for an exhibition against the Gaels. This year the two teams will face off at Concordia Stadium in Montreal, home of the Stingers.

Queen’s head coach Pat Sheahan is very familiar with Concordia as he spent his first 11 seasons as a head coach in the CIS with the Stingers from 1989 to 1999.

Last year it was the Stingers who took a 25-18 win in Kingston over the Gaels. Queen’s had a shot to tie the score on the final play of the game sitting just outside the Stinger endzone but could not convert. Jesse Andrews (Arnprior, Ont.) had a standout day for the Gaels rushing 12 times for 100 yards in only three quarters of action while OUA All-Rookie Michael Moore (Mississauga, Ont.) led the team defensively with 6.5 tackles.

Concordia was led by Colin Sequeira who finished off a 12 play 75 yard attack with a one yard rushing score to put Concordia in front for good.

The Gaels will kick-off their OUA regular season when they welcome the Carleton Ravens to Kingston on Sunday August 30, 2015. Kick-off is set for 1pm at Richardson Stadium.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
