CFC50 No. 8 Saint-Jean-Eudes CONDORS (44 – 7) CFC50 No. 38 É. sec. du Triolet HARFANGS

The Condors defense set the tone for the day with 4 INTs and 2 sacks, The standout defensive player of this game was Justin Cloutier with a couple of pick sixes. The QB role was shared between Edouard Vachon who went 4 for 8 and 1 TD and Olivier Martel, 4 four 5, 1 TD, and 1 INT. CFC100 Running back Mathieu Roy ground it out the ground game with an average of 7.7 yards per carry and a touchdown of his own. The Harfangs just could not get things moving. QB Yanik Daigle just had one of those days you put past you and learn from going for 4 completions on 11 attempts and 4 interceptions. The highlight of the day was Alexy Dion having 8 carriers for 60 yards and the sole touchdown on the day. The Condors currently sit on top of the RSEQ division with the Blizzard at 5-0. Watch out this week for the showdown of undefeated teams when they face off against each other.

Collège Jean-Eudes AIGLES (0 – 36) CFC50 No. 20 Collège Charles-Lemoyne DYNAMIQUES

Typically when you lose the turnover battle you don’t come out with a win of 36-0.  But when you have an offence like the Dynamiques that go 2 passes to 1 run play, your QB can light things up. Noah Gravel went for 25 for 33 attempts, 4 TDs, and 3 INTs. But the day just did not belong to the offence who not only shut out the Aigles, but did it in an intense fashion. 5 knocked passes, 3 tackles for a loss, 1 interception, and a whopping 7 sacks. Thomas Pilon and Jacob Jinchereau were in the face of the QB all day having 3 sacks a piece. Aigles QB Charles Foisy simply had a day like the Harfangs QB. He needs to put that behind him, check the film, and learn from the day.

É. sec. Armand-Corbeil SCORPIONS (7 – 14) CFC50 No. 43 Collège Notre-Dame CACTUS

This game was a game of offensive struggle and defensive strength. Offensively, the Cactus had only 209 yards of offence. QB Tristan Aboud threw  13 for 16 attempts, 2 TDs, and 1 INT. The defence had 3 interceptions and 6 knock down passes on the day. Not bad, but when you consider the Scorpion”s offence had 29 attempted passes between three QBs, the Cactus either intercepted or knocked down over 30% of the attempts. It’s understandable the Scorpion’s offence struggled. The highlight for the Scorpions was running back Zakary Malouin who had 16 carriers for 101 yards, and the sole Scorpions touchdown on the day. The Scorpion’s defence stood their ground having 9 tackles for a loss 1 int and 2 sacks

CFC50 No. 47 É. sec. Curé-Antoine-Labelle LES LOUPS (2 – 25) CFC50 No. 3 Séminaire Saint-François BLIZZARD

There had to be something in the air this weekend in division 1 or the defences have spent a lot more time in the classroom watching film and preparing to shut down the offences. Typically, you see low QB production week 1 or 2, but this was week 5. Blizzard QB Frederic Doucet did not have his best performance – 8 for 16 and only 75 yards. But it was the running game and play of Thomas Desrosiers that tore up the turf having 25 carriers for 158 yards and 3 TDs. The Blizzard’s defence simply shut down the wolf pack only allowing them a total of 122 yards and it showed on the scoreboard. The defence did what they could do; 6 tackles for a loss and 1 interception, but as time went on and your defence is on the field a majority of the game, the ‘bend don’t break’ rule tends to break.

É. sec. Roger-Comtois PATRIOTES (26 – 7) Académie Saint-Louis ARSENAL

Battle of the winless and this battle was won in the turnover game. Patriotes had 3 INTs on the day and 4 sacks offensively. QB Jonathan Tremblay had 10 completions for 19 attempts, 176 yards, and 3 TDs. Connecting most of those yards with receiver Christopher Vandenberg Paradis on 5 receptions, he had 111 yards and 2 TDs. Jonathan Tremblay not only had good stats with his arm, but also his foot being perfect on field goals. Arsenal had somewhat of a decent day on the offence with QB Mathieu Bellavance‘s 10 for 20 for 102 yards and 1 TD, but it was the 3 interceptions that hurt them. Defensively, the Arsenal need to get stronger. Only registering 1 tackle for a loss and the single interception. If you want success on the defence you can’t rely on incompletions.

CFC25 No. 3 Collège Bourget VOLTIGEURS (40 – 6) Académie les Estacades ESTACADES

Well here we go again, the Voltigeurs have made a massive impact on this division in their first year. This team has offensive weapons all over making the job easier for QB Simon Boudreault who went 22 for 30, 278 yards, and 4 TDs. Half of the production in the air went to receiver Vincent Drolet with 5 receptions for 141 yards and 2 TDs. But yet again, the running game was just as productive, and you should keep a close eye on this name Jayden Josiah Theodore. Theodore had 19 carries for 211 yards and 1TD. This kid is on track for a 1200 yard rushing season. While his QB, Boudreault, has already passed the 1000 yard mark at the halfway point of the season. This puts him on track for 2000 yards. Estacade’s defence simply did not have the answer. But then again, no one has really had the answer for this offence. It seems they really haven’t been tested yet. However, this week they will face off against CFC25 No. 6 Séminaire Saint-Joseph Vert et Or. Watch out for the hottest game of the season in this division.

É. sec. Pointe-Lévy CORSAIRES (3 – 37) CFC25 No. 6 Séminaire Saint-Joseph VERT ET OR

Let’s start with the small but mighty, and BIG HEART, Corsaires. When you have a roster of 35 players, the longer the season goes the tougher it gets. Especially when there is no bye week in the season. The bumps and bruises add up and production goes down. Now that being said, the Corsaires never quit. They just happen to come across the top team in the division who are a well oiled machine. Séminaire Saint-Joseph can spread the ball around so much it would take a page to list individual stats on production. For example, 6 players made it to the stat sheet for rushing yards in which out of those six, four scored touchdowns. Eliot Tourigny had the sole touchdown reception. The ‘bend don’t break’ green and gold defence held their own with 8 tackles for a loss, 3 knock down passes, and 1 interception. Surprisingly there no sacks on the day. Expect this defence to stand tall this up coming week and the offensive strategy to include ball control. They face off against their fellow undefeated team the Bourget Voltigeurs.

Polyvalente Deux-Montagnes (28 – 21 p) CFc25 No. 18 É. sec. Saint-Stanislas

UPSET OF THE YEAR! This game recap might be longer than most, but well deserved. What was predicted to be a runaway win for the Patriotes became the quintessential reason why the game is played on the field, and became the OVERTIME upset game of the week.

If you look at the active roster sheet, the Patriotes were down 15 players and key players were not active. Make no mistake, this is not an excuse. With a roster as deep as the Patriotes have, the team should still fair well. The Centurions came out firing. QB Liam Mcgonigal threw 14 for 23 and 1 touchdown while rushing for 49 yards and a touchdown. While the running game was not the highest production for yards on the day, it was on the scoreboard with William David Lufiau Jr. scoring a couple of touchdowns. At the end of the day, the Centurions won field position which won them the game. The Patriotes stayed in the game offensively and defensively, but it was the special teams play that really hurt them. The punt game hurt them in the field position which resulted in short field for the centurion offence.

The Patriote’s offence came from behind to bring this game to overtime thanks to the play of Raphael Bressani who hauled in a 35 yard reception to not be denied and took it 30 yards after the catch for the touchdown. Wembi Leba had a 50 yard kickoff return, plus a 65 yard touchdown run. Despite valiant efforts, it was just not the Patriotes day and could not produce when the heat was on in overtime.

The Centurions started the overtime and came out quick and scored the first touchdown. Now it was up to their defence to secure the Centurion’s first win in two seasons. And they came out fired up, stopping the Patriotes dead in their tracks. The Centurion’s defence had 6 tackles for a loss, plus 5 big sacks, and 1 interception. Marc-Andre Turpin was the defensive player of the game with 10 solo tackles, 6 assisted tackles, 2 sacks, and a tackle for a loss. At the end of the game, the Centurions flooded the field celebrating, breaking the goose egg in the win column by knocking off last year’s champs. Just icing on their cake.

Collège Laval Marauders (13 – 28) CFC25 No. 21 Collège de Lévis Commandeurs

Here is another upset. The Commandeurs are an underrated team who play with a chip on their shoulder and wanted to prove they should be in the discussion for who could make it to the finals. And by knocking off the Marauders, they may have just done that. Despite the Marauder’s QB Victor Charland having 17 completions on 31 attempts and 1 touchdown, the Commandeur’s defence simply wen into shut down mode and closed the door on Laval’s running game.

The Marauders had nine players with stats, but only registered a total of 48 yards. So the talk of this game, once again, #4 Nathan Lacasse (his number is noted because the team has 2 players with the same name). This player is a one man wrecking crew; 9 receptions for  133 yards, 2 TDs in the air, and 5 carries on 33 yards for 1 TD. Add in his kick returns and this wrecking crew had 294 of all purpose yards. QB Thomas Cloutier had 19 completions on 27 attempts, 271 yards, 1 INT, and threw 3 TDs. As mentioned, the Marauder’s run game had the door slammed shut by the Commandeur’s defence to the tune of 4 sacks, a fumble recovery, 1 INT, and 5 tackles for loss, and when your assisted tackles are equal or greater to solo tackles, that tells you something about the defence. They have a gang tackle mentality and when you face a defence with this mentality, it’s tough to beat.
