The Ottawa Gee-Gees (0-0 playoffs, 7-1 OUA, 7-2 Overall) host Laurier (1-0 playoffs, 4-4 OUA) Saturday, November 6, 1:00 p.m. for the OUA Football Semi-Final game at Frank Clair Stadium in Ottawa.
The uOttawa Gee-Gees are back in action this weekend to take on Laurier for the OUA Semi-Finals, and for chance to advance to the Yates Cup next weekend. The garnet and grey are coming off a bye week, which they earned after finishing first overall in the OUA regular season standings.
In their last regular season game, the Gee-Gees dismantled the Guelph defense in a 54-11 win. Offensively, the Gee-Gees ran the ball extremely well for 389 yards on the day; including a 58 yard touchdown for fourth-year quarterback Brad Sinopoli, Peterborough, Ont., and two touchdowns for first-year running back Franck Ngandui, Laval, Que., one of which was a 69 yard run.
Laurier on the other hand, are coming off an OUA Quarter-Final 42-10 win, again at the expense of Guelph, last week. The Golden Hawks put forth a solid defensive effort with five interceptions, and absolutely punished Guelphβs offensive line up by knocking out both their starting and backup quarterbacks out of the game.
In their last meeting this season, the Gee-Gees beat Laurier 44-21 at home in what was a record setting game for Brad Sinopoli. He became the Gee-Gees all-time leader for attempts, completions, and passing yards in a season. In his next game versus Guelph, Sinopoli also became the all-time leader for most touchdowns in a season; Brad finishes the regular season as the OUA and CIS leader with 301 attempts, 184 completions, 2756 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and averaged 344.5 yards per game.
Gee-Gees head coach Jean-Philippe Asselin is looking forward to the challenge Laurier presents: βThey had a good game last week. I think not giving up a big play on defense or special teams will be a big key to the game.β
