Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week 18: Lulay, Mitchell, Milo, Forzani (video)

TORONTO – Travis Lulay, Khalif Mitchell, Chris Milo and Johnny Forzani were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week for the 18th week of the 2011 season.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges including: former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.


Gibson’s Finest CFL Offensive Player of the Week

Travis Lulay
QB – BC Lions

Edmonton Eskimos 20 @ BC Lions 29

BC Lions quarterback Travis Lulay has been named Gibson’s Finest CFL Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Lulay completed 21-of-31 pass attempts for 322 yards and three touchdowns during the Lions’ 29-20 win over the Edmonton Eskimos. He also had three carries for 22 yards.

In the opening quarter of Saturday’s matchup, Lulay connected with Jamal Robertson on a 35-yard touchdown pass and later connected with Paris Jackson on a 51-yard pass, his longest of the game, for another score. His third touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a 14-yard pass to Arland Bruce.

Lulay is ranked second in the league with 4,535 passing yards this season.


Gibson’s Finest CFL Defensive Player of the Week

Khalif Mitchell
DT – BC Lions

Edmonton Eskimos 20 @ BC Lions 29

BC Lions defensive tackle Khalif Mitchell has been named Gibson’s Finest CFL Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Mitchell registered four tackles and two quarterback sacks for a total loss of 17 yards in the Lions’ 29-20 win at home over the Edmonton Eskimos.


Gibson’s Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Week

Chris Milo
K – Saskatchewan Roughriders

Saskatchewan Roughriders rookie kicker Chris Milo has been named Gibson’s Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Week. During the Riders’ 19-3 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Milo had eight punts for 412 yards, with an average of 51.5 yards, and three singles. His longest punt, a 108-yarder, tied the CFL record set by Zenon Andrusyshyn of the Toronto Argonauts on September 14, 1977.

On Saturday, Milo connected on all three field goal attempts, coming from 11, 40 and 12 yards out, and a convert. He is currently ranked third in the league with a punting average of 43.6 yards.


Gibson’s Finest CFL Canadian Player of the Week

Johnny Forzani
WR – Calgary Stampeders

Calgary Stampeders 32 @ Montreal Alouettes 27

Calgary Stampeders wide receiver Johnny Forzani has been named Gibson’s Finest CFL Canadian Player of the Week for the second time this season. The Calgary native caught six passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns against the Montreal Alouettes. Forzani’s first touchdown came in the first quarter on a 33-yard pass from Drew Tate. His second touchdown came in the fourth quarter on an 18-yard pass. Forzani also registered a tackle in Sunday afternoon’s game.

Forzani’s strong offensive showing helped give the Stamps the edge they needed to beat the Als 32-27 and remain in contention for first place in the West Division.
