Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week 19: Bowman, Simpson, McCallum, Durie

TORONTO – Adarius Bowman, Juwan Simpson, Paul McCallum and Andre Durie were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week for the 19th week of the 2011 season.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges including: former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.


Gibson’s Finest CFL Offensive Player of the Week


Adarius Bowman
SB – Edmonton Eskimos

Edmonton Eskimos slotback Adarius Bowman has been named Gibson’s Finest CFL Offensive Player of the Week. Bowman had the best showing of his CFL career in the Esks’ narrow 23-20 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday night. With 10 catches for 226 yards, including a 24- and 71-yard touchdown, Bowman helped the Esks clinch a home game in the Western Semi-Final against the Calgary Stampeders next Sunday.

After the 2011 regular season, Bowman is ranked fourth in the league with 1,153 receiving yards.

Gibson’s Finest CFL Defensive Player of the Week

Calgary Stampeders linebacker Juwan Simpson has been named Gibson’s Finest CFL Defensive Player of the Week. Simpson registered a career-high 10 tackles in the Stamps’ 30-24 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at McMahon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Gibson’s Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Week

Paul McCallum
K – BC Lions

BC Lions kicker Paul McCallum has been named Gibson’s Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Week for the fifth time this season. McCallum connected on all five field goal attempts, from 27, 28, 32, 18 and 32 yards out, and all four converts in the Lions’ 43-1 victory over the Montreal Alouettes. He also had four punts for 177 yards, with an average of 44.3 yards, including a 50-yarder.

McCallum’s 19-point contribution helped the Lions clinch first place in the West Division, and secure a home game in the Western Finals.

After 19 weeks, McCallum leads the league with 203 kicking points.


Gibson’s Finest CFL Canadian Player of the Week


Andre Durie
RB/SB – Toronto Argonauts

Hamilton Tiger-Cats 16 @ Toronto Argonauts 33

Toronto Argonauts running back/slotback Andre Durie has been named Gibson’s Finest CFL Canadian Player of the Week. The Mississauga, Ontario native caught eight passes for a career-high 144 yards and two touchdowns in the Argos’ 33-16 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Durie’s first touchdown came in the first quarter on a 20-yard pass from quarterback Dalton Bell, and his second score came in the fourth quarter on a 43-yard pass. He also registered two carries for five yards and one 38-yard kickoff return.

Durie was voted most under-rated player in the CFL on TSN 2011 Player Poll.
