TORONTO — Travis Lulay, Jerrell Freeman, Chad Owens and Akeem Foster were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week for the tenth week of the 2011 season.
The four players were chosen by a panel of judges including: former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan (@MattDuniganTSN) and Duane Forde (@DuaneFordeTSN), now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

BC Lions quarterback Travis Lulay was named Gibson’s Finest CFL Offensive Player of the Week. Lulay completed 25-of-36 pass attempts, including a 53-yard pass completion to receiver Akeem Foster, for 309 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown came in the first quarter on a 16-yard pass to Arland Bruce. Lulay’s offensive performance led the Lions to a 29-16 win over the Toronto Argonauts at Rogers Centre on Friday night.

Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Jerrell Freeman was named Gibson’s Finest CFL Defensive Player of the Week in the Riders’ 27-7 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Mosaic Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Registering seven tackles, an interception for a nine-yard return, a forced fumble and a quarterback sack, Freeman’s strong defensive efforts assisted in snapping the Riders’ four-game losing streak.

Toronto Argonauts wide receiver and kick returner Chad Owens was named Gibson’s Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Week. Owens had his best showing of the season on Friday night, returning four kickoffs for 245 yards, including a 91-yard return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Owens also returned four punts for 48 yards, including a 21-yarder, and caught three passes for 16 yards in the Argos’ 29-16 loss to the BC Lions. Owens leads the league with 1,269 combined return yards in 2011.

Ontario native and BC Lions wide receiver Akeem Foster was named Gibson’s Finest CFL Canadian Player of the Week. The former St. Francis Xavier X-Men player had the best performance of his CFL career in the Lions’ 29-16 win over the Argos, catching eight passes for 144 yards, including a 53-yarder in the fourth quarter.
