TORONTO –Β Jon Cornish, Chip Cox and Rene Paredes were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Month for October, the Canadian Football League announced today.
The monthly award includes all games played from Week 15 to Week 19.
The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Jon Cornish
RB – Calgary Stampeders
Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish was named the Offensive and Canadian Player of the Month for October.
In five games, the New Westminster, BC native recorded 606 rushing yards on 75 attempts (8.1 YPC) and scored four touchdowns to help the Stampeders go 4-1 between Weeks 15-19.Β Cornish’s best game of the month arrived in Week 15 when he ran for 208 yards on 17 attempts and scored a pair of touchdowns against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
During that stretch, Cornish also had eight receptions for 83 yards, had four consecutive 100+ yard rushing games, was named Offensive Player of the Week once (Week 15) and was awarded Canadian Player of the Week four times (Weeks 15, 16, 17 and 18).
Cornish finished the 2013 season as the CFL’s leading rusher with 1,813 yards and had the most touchdowns this season with 14.
Cornish, the single season rushing leader at Kansas University, has been named Canadian Player of the Month three times this season, including in July and September.

Chip Cox
LB – Montreal Alouettes
Montreal Alouettes linebacker Chip Cox was named the Defensive Player of the Month for October. Cox recorded 24 tackles, six sacks, two special teams tackles and an interception in five games.
Cox was recognized as Defensive Player of the Week in Week 17, where he had six tackles, a special teams tackle, and two sacks in Montreal’s convincing 36-5 win over Hamilton.
Cox finished the season with the most tackles in the CFL with 115, and finished fourth in the league in sacks with 12 (both career-highs).
Cox, an Ohio University standout, broke the Montreal Alouettes club record for most tackles in a season.
Cox was named Defensive Player of the Month in August.
Gibson’s Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the MonthΒ
Rene Paredes
K – Calgary Stampeders
Calgary Stampeders kicker Rene Paredes was named the Special Teams Player of the Month for October. Paredes went 16-for-17 on field goal attempts between Week 15 to 19.
His best game of the month was a Week 17 clash versus Edmonton, as Paredes was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goals.
Paredes, a product of Concordia, finished with the most kicking points in the league with 213 and set the new benchmark in field-goal percentage by going 54-for-57 (94.7%) on the season.
This is Paredes’ third Special Teams Player of the Month this season, with his others coming in July and September.
