Gibson’s Finest 2013 CFL Players of the Week (12): Reilly, Bighill, Maver & Getzlaf

TORONTO – Mike Reilly, Adam Bighill, Rob Maver and Chris Getzlaf were named the Gibson’s Finest Players of the Week for Week 12 of the 2013 Canadian Football League season.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges including: former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Gibson’s Finest CFL Offensive Player of the Week 
Mike Reilly
QB – Edmonton Eskimos
Winnipeg Blue Bombers 7 @ Edmonton Eskimos 25

Edmonton Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly was named the Offensive Player of the Week for Week 12. Reilly completed 16-of-25 passes for 196 yards and threw three touchdown passes to help Edmonton defeat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, 25-7.

Reilly, a Central Washington University product, rushed for a career-high 113 yards on nine carries, including a 45-yard run in the second quarter.

Reilly currently sits fourth in the league in passing with 2,667 yards and has thrown for a total of 19 touchdowns this season.

Gibson’s Finest CFL Defensive Player of the Week
Adam Bighill
LB – BC Lions
Montreal Alouettes 14 @ BC Lions 36

BC Lions linebacker Adam Bighill was named the Defensive Player of the Week for Week 12. Bighill recorded seven tackles and added his first interception on the season to help the BC Lions defeat the visiting Montreal Alouettes, 36-14.

Bighill was able to intercept a Josh Neiswander pass in the third quarter and returned it 44-yards to the Alouettes one-yard line, which led to an Andrew Harris touchdown on the next play.

The former Central Washington University player is fifth in the league in tackles 52 and is tied for second on the Lions with four sacks on the season.

Rob Maver
P – Calgary Stampeders
Hamilton Tiger-Cats 22 @ Calgary Stampeders 26

Calgary Stampeders punter Rob Maver was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 12. Maver had five punts for 244 yards (48.8 yards average per punt) including a 52-yard punt in the Stampeders home victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, 26-22.

Maver, a University of Guelph standout, also showcased his arm on a fake punt where he found Matt Walker for a 31-yard catch and gave the Stampeders a new series of downs.

Maver is currently tied for second in the CFL with a punting average of 45 yards per punt.

Gibson’s Finest CFL Canadian Player of the Week
Chris Getzlaf
SB – Saskatchewan Roughriders
Toronto Argonauts 31 @ Saskatchewan Roughriders 29

Saskatchewan Roughriders slotback Chris Getzlaf was named the Canadian Player of the Week for Week 12. Getzlaf recorded five receptions for a game-high 135 yards and caught a pair of touchdowns in the Roughriders home loss to the Toronto Argonauts, 31-29.

The former University of Regina player and Regina, SK native caught touchdown passes from 31 and 17 yards. This was Getzlaf’s season-high in receiving yards and his second multiple touchdown game this season.

Getzlaf leads all Canadian receivers with 708 yards and currently sits fourth in the league in receiving yards. He’s also tied for second with seven touchdown receptions  this season.
