Gibson’s Finest 2013 CFL Players of the Week (13): Collaros, Cox, Lauther & Durie

TORONTO – Zach Collaros, Chip Cox, Brett Lauther and Andre Durie were named the Gibson’s Finest Players of the Week for Week 13 of the 2013 Canadian Football League season.

The four players were chosen by a panel of judges including: former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

Zach Collaros
QB – Toronto Argonauts
Toronto Argonauts 33 @ Calgary Stampeders 27

Toronto Argonauts quarterback Zach Collaros was named the Offensive Player of the Week for Week 13. Collaros completed 25-of-36 (69.4%) passes for 330 yards and threw for a career-high four touchdown passes to help give the Argonauts a crucial road victory over the west leading Calgary Stampders, 33-27.

Collaros, a University of Cincinnati product, threw touchdowns from 34, 28, 4 and 2-yards away to four different receivers. He also rushed the ball four times and complied 20 yards.

In his sophomore season in the CFL, Collaros has started five games this season for the Toronto Argonauts and has a 4-1 record. He has passed for 1,822 yards, 12 touchdowns and only four interceptions this season.

Chip Cox
LB – Montreal Alouettes
Montreal Alouettes 26 @ Hamilton Tiger-Cats 28

Montreal Alouettes linebacker Chip Cox was named the Defensive Player of the Week for Week 13. Cox recorded a game-high eight tackles, two sacks and had an interception in Montreal’s narrow loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, 28-26 in the NAPA Touchdown Atlantic in Moncton, NB.

Cox picked-off Henry Burris and returned it four yards for his second interception on the season.

The former Ohio University player is first in the CFL in tackles with 86 and is tied for second on the Alouettes with seven special teams tackles, two interceptions and third on the team in sacks with six.

Brett Lauther
K – Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Montreal Alouettes 26 @ Hamilton Tiger-Cats 28

Hamilton Tiger-Cats kicker Brett Lauther was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 13. In his CFL debut in Moncton, Lauther went perfect by going four-for-four in field goals and added a pair of converts to help the Tiger-Cats defeat the Alouettes, 28-26.

Lauther, a Saint Mary’s standout last season, was successful on field-goals from 40, 34, and a pair from 25 yards away.

In his CFL debut, the Truro, NS native was able to play in front of many friends and family with the game taking place in near-by Moncton, NB.

Andre Durie
SB – Toronto Argonauts
Toronto Argonauts 33 @ Calgary Stampeders 27

Toronto Arognauts slotback Andre Durie was named the Canadian Player of the Week for Week 13. Durie recorded a game-high nine receptions for 64 yards, including a two-yard touchdown from Zach Collaros. Durie also ran the ball twice for 17 yards in Toronto’s 100th Grey Cup rematch victory over the Stampeders on Saturday night.

The former York University player and Mississauga, ON native currently leads the Argos with 733 receiving yards this season and is on pace to set career-highs in receptions and receiving yards.

This is Durie’s second Gibson’s Finest CFL Canadian Player of the Week this season, with his first coming in Week 3.
