Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week #15: Elliott, Thompson, DeAngelis and Harris

TORONTO – Joey Elliott, Chris Thompson, Sandro DeAngelis and Andrew Harris were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week for Week 15, the Canadian Football League announced today.
The four players were chosen by a panel of judges that includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

 

Gibson’s Finest CFL Offensive Player of the Week:

Joey Elliott

QB – Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Winnipeg Blue Bombers 27 @ Montreal Alouettes 22

Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Joey Elliott was named the Offensive Player of the Week for Week 15. Elliott completed 17 of 25 passes, threw for 335 yards and a career high three touchdowns in the Bombers’ 27-22 win over the Montreal Alouettes. Elliott also contributed 13 yards on two carries in the Bomber’s first road win of the season.
Elliott came up big for the Bombers as he completed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Rory Kohlert at 9:26 of the fourth quarter which proved to be too much for the Als to overcome. Elliott’s strong play earned him his second 2012 Player of the Week award.

Gibson’s Finest CFL Defensive Player of the Week:

Chris Thompson

DB – Edmonton Eskimos

Hamilton Tiger-Cats 20 @ Edmonton Eskimos 35


Edmonton Eskimos defensive back Chris Thompson was named the Defensive Player of the Week for Week 15. Thompson registered three tackles and two interceptions in the Eskimos’ 30-25 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Thompson’s second interception of the game came at 7:27 of the fourth quarter and the Eskimos were able to capitalize on the next series with a touchdown.
Thompson’s solid play at Commonwealth Stadium earned him his first 2012 Player of the Week award as well as helped his team stay ahead of the Ticats for the final playoff spot.
Gibson’s Finest CFL Special Teams Player of the Week:

Sandro DeAngelis

K – Saskatchewan Roughriders

Saskatchewan Roughriders 36 @ Toronto Argonauts 10


Saskatchewan Roughriders kicker Sandro DeAngelis was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 15. DeAngelis was five for six on field goal attempts and three for three on extra point conversions in the Roughriders’ 36-10 win over the Toronto Argonauts.
DeAngelis’ 18-point effort earned him his first 2012 Player of the Week award and helped his team to a crucial win at Rogers Centre on Thanksgiving Monday.
Gibson’s Finest CFL Canadian Player of the Week:

Andrew Harris

RB – BC Lions

Calgary Stampeders 22 @ BC Lions 27


BC Lions running back Andrew Harris was named the Canadian Player of the Week for Week 15. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native compiled 73 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries and added another 52 yards on four receptions in the Lions’ 27-22 win over the Calgary Stampeders.
Harris was instrumental for the Lions in their effort to maintain first place in the West Division and the best overall record in the CFL.
100th GREY CUP PLAYOFF SCENARIOS:


The CFL enters Week 16 of the 2012 season with two teams having the opportunity to clinch a home playoff game and two teams having the opportunity to clinch a berth in the 100th Grey Cup Playoffs.
