Golden Bears welcome Alberta commit to their Class of 2018.
It will only take Carson Lethbridge, an offensive lineman from David Thompson High School, a little over an hour and a half to trek into Edmonton, Alberta, to suit up with his new team, the University of Alberta Golden Bears.
From Sylvan Lake, Alberta, Lethbridge’s hometown, it’s a straight shot up Highway 2 to reach the capital of the province. “I picked the University of Alberta because it’s somewhat close to home,” Lethbridge said.
The five-year veteran hasn’t had the chance to meet all of the Golden Bears coaches. However, he said the ones he has met are awesome. “I’ve played for some of them on Team Alberta U18 and that was a great experience,” Lethbridge said. “Learning the way they coach and treat their guys made it easier to make my decision.”
Along with Team Alberta, Lethbridge has played with the Sylvan Lake Bears, Lions and Lakers (Sylvan Lake Minor Football Association) and the Prairie Fire (Calgary Area Midget Football Association). He has also represented Zone 4 in the Alberta Summer Games.
In 2015 and 2016, the 6’5, 300lbs offensive guard won back-to-back championships with the Lakers. In 2015, he won the B-Side Championship with the Fire. This past year, the was the Lakers’ lineman of the year.
Lethbridge is unsure as to what he will be taking in university, however he is considering education.
“I’m excited to play for a high calibre team next year,” he said. “I can’t wait to learn as much as I can and to improve a lot.”
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
