Golden Bears “laid out clear plan” for Calgary recruit

Calgary defensive back/running back joins CWUAA team’s 2015 class.

Gavin Smith will be playing CIS football in his home province.

Recently, the 5’11, 180 pound defensive back/running back from Calgary signed with the University of Alberta Golden Bears.  Smith will join the team for the 2015 CWUAA season.

Ultimately, the strengths of both the academic and football programs weighed heavily on the two-way standout’s decision.

“I chose to commit to the University of Alberta because they laid out a clear plan as to how I could contribute to the team as well as the fact that the academic support system is such that I can be successful on and off the field,” elaborated Smith of his commitment.  “I like the competitive team atmosphere and feel Coach [Chris] Morris’ commitment to the players and the team is paying dividends.”

Smith has previously suited up for Ernest Manning Griffins of the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association (CSHSAA) and Calgary Wildcats of the Calgary Area Midget Football Association (CAMFA).
