Mississauga pivot becomes first CFC TOP 1oo player to join OUA team’s 2014 class.

With a perfect combination of all that he was looking for, Nate Hobbs will be embarking on his CIS career in Kingston, Ontario.

The CFC TOP 100 quarterback has committed to the Queen’s Golden Gaels for 2014 OUA season.

β€œI chose Queen’s because it’s great in both academics and football,” explained the 6’1, 200 pound pivot from Mississauga, Ontario of his decision.Β  β€œMy favourite part about the university is the campus and that was a huge factor in my decision; the campus is beautiful and it really felt like somewhere I could call home for the next four or five years.”

β€œWhen I went on my overnight visit, I got to meet a lot of the guys on the team and it really felt like they were a tight group of guys and I really liked that as well. It felt like something I wanted to be a part of. The coaches are great as well, and I got along with them well and I hope that continues, and as far as teams goes”

Since the age of 10, the pivot has played with the Mississauga Warriors of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).Β  With the junior varsity Warriors last season, Hobbs registered 1900 passing yards, 27 passing touchdowns and threw seven interceptions. Β Moreover, he guided the team to back to back consecutive OVFL junior varsity championships. For his exceptional play last year, the Ontario quarterback was selected as Warriors team MVP.

Hobbs has played for his high school team, the St. Joan of Arc Angels of the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) for the past three years.Β  He has been an Angels Offensive MVP during his time with the team.

This past July, Hobbs represented his home province as a member of Team Ontario at the 2013 Football Canada Cup in Moncton, New Brunswick.Β  The team brought home the bronze medal from the tournament.

Nate has been ranked on the CFC Top 100 list three consecutive times.

β€œThe (Gaels) football program has been very competitive over the past few years and I hope that I can help add to that success,” added Hobbs.

As for the Golden Gaels, the team is thrilled to have an elite quarterback such as Nate become part of the fold.

“We are very pleased to have Nate with us at Queen’s,” commented Golden Gaels Head Coach Pat Sheahan. Β “He Β is a key acquisition Β in this year’s recruiting class.”
