Golden Hawks add two Ontario recruits (VIDEO)

Chippawa linebacker & London lineman recently join OUA team’s 2015 class.

Recently, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks announced the signing of two Ontario recruits.

Adam Masur and Ben Almond will join the team for the 2015 OUA season.

ADAM MASUR:

The  6’0, 220 pound linebacker from Chippawa, Ontario played for the Okanagan Sun in the British Columbia Football Conference (BCFC) in the Canadian Junior Football Conference (CJFL) Previous to the Sun, Masur suited up for the Niagara Spears of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

“Adam is a throwback, tough, instinctive and physical inside linebacker,” commented Golden Hawks Recruiting and Special Teams Coordinator as well as Defensive Backs Coach Dwayne Cameron.  “He will also have a big impact for us on Special Teams.”

For his part, the Ontario linebacker was impressed by the coaching staff during the official visit to the school.

“While on my recruiting trip, Coach [Michael] Faulds and Coach Cameron were very helpful and seemed like the type of coaches I would want to play for,” recalled Masur.  “The campus and coaches were major factors in my decision to commit.”

Overall, Masur is ecstatic for the opportunity to play with the Golden Hawks.

“I believe the future is bright for Laurier,” elaborated Masur.  “After a 1-7 season in 2013, Coach Faulds and the rest of the coaching staff have turned this program around.”

“Starting this past season with a 4-1 record and finishing just short of the playoffs and a 4-4 record showed me that they are making progress and are ready to win.  I am very excited to attend Wilfrid Laurier this fall and begin my CIS football career as a Golden Hawk!”

BEN ALMOND:

The 6’3, 255 pound offensive lineman (left tackle) from London, Ontario previously suited up for both the Catholic Central Crusaders of the Thames Valley Regional Athletic Association (TVRAA) and London Jr. Mustangs of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

This past season,  Almond was the recipient of the Dr. Allen Award for TVRAA District Top Lineman.

“Ben opened our eyes when CCH played a preseason game here at Laurier in September,” expressed Golden Hawks Offensive Line Coach Irv Daymond.  “We fell in love with his ability, character and he is a great student.”

Ultimately, Almond was swayed the Golden Hawks recruitment wooing attempts.

“When I was recruited by Laurier it was a really cool experience because they were the first school to formally offer me anything,” reflected Almond.  “The whole experience with the recruitment process was really positive and I think that what lead to my eventual commitment.”
