Golden Horseshoe Bowl: Pezzetta does it all for the Irish (stats)

The CFC #11 Notre Dame Irish (Burlington) faced the CFC #4 Lakeshore Catholic Gators (Port Colbourne) in the finals of the Golden Horseshoe Bowl in a highly anticipated match up. It was the third year in a row these two schools met in the GH Bowl.

QB/RB/LB Chris Pezzetta (ND) was the best player on the field, accounting for most of the Irish offense (2 TDs on 79 yards rushing, and 2 for 9 passing) and leading the team with 9.5 tackles.

Although the Gators outgained the Irish 310 to 178 yards, it was the Irish who came out on top 16 to 14.

The Irish led in the 4th quarter 16 to 8, but Lakeshore came back to score a potential game tying touchdown (54 yard pass to Lucas Schinkel from Brandon Leguault) with 1:31 remaining. The ensuing 2 point convert pass attempt was knocked down by the irish defender on the play.

Keaton Spratt led the Gators with 74 yards on 17 carries, but two costly fumbles by the Gators (the only two turnovers of the game) may have been the difference.
