No. 4 LeBoldus Golden Suns (7-0) v. No. 25 Riffel Royals (6-1)

This is an interesting one and one that will determine the Regina City Champions. Both teams have been here before multiple times, with LeBoldus more recently winning this title over and over again. This past weekend the Golden Suns beat Sir Winston Churchill 24-6 in the semifinal round, while Riffel came out with a 14-7 victory against the Campbell Tartans. If we compare the common opponent, the Tartans, LeBoldus beat them 48-37, while Riffel had a much larger margin at 46-8. However, Riffel lost to LeBoldus in the regular season, 48-24. With a +/- of 213 points, LeBoldus looks to be the stronger contender compared to Riffel’s +/- of 115. On Friday, Nov. 1st at 6:00pm CST we’ll see just who has the ponies to get to the finish line.

No. 6 South Delta Sun Devils (6-0, 2-0) v. No. 29 New Westminster Hyacks (5-1, 1-1)

We can say that there is no love lost between these two. On Friday, Nov. 1st at 7:30pm PST, there will be one game that is promised to be full of fireworks. South Delta is the only remaining undefeated team in the AAA Western Conference in British Columbia. They started out strong and have kept the pedal down the whole season. With multiple CFC100 athletes on their roster, they can get away with things that other less athletic teams may not. This is what makes this match so intriguing as the Hyacks also boast a roster of CFC100 athletes who match up quite nicely with said athletes for South Delta. With a point differential of 140 points, they more than outdo New West at 62. The interesting thing is this though, apparently quarterback Ben McDonald for SD was injured in last week’s game and that could limit his time this game as they save him for playoffs? or will they be business as usual and roll the dice. We have heard that he may not even be playing….oh the suspense. Regardless, this game tends to get a bit chippy, so come prepared to sit through the penalties unless a new leaf has been turned on both sidelines.

No. 15 Raymond Comets (3-0, 3-3) v. No. 38 LCI Rams (4-1, 1-2)

Battle of central Alberta. Heaven forbid should you have to play the Comets in their backyard. One thing we know about the Comets, they don’t shy away from any competition as demonstrated in their first non-conference matchup against CFC50 No. 19 Harry Ainlay, 21-10. LCI lost to Raymond in week 5, 21-0. However, when we look at a common opponent, Cardston, LCI fared much better with their win of 31-7 versus Raymond’s win of 29-20. Both programs are rich in tradition and it wouldn’t be surprising if one of these teams goes deep in the Alberta playdowns.

***UPDATED: LCI beat Raymond 13-8 on Wednesday night prior to publication, and is the Region 1 champion. They will go on to host the quarterfinal on Nov. 9th.

No. 5 Greenall Griffins (7-0) v. BJM Saints (6-1, 0-1)

This one is for the real money. The Griffins cracked the top 5 of the CFC25 ranking this week with their city final win over No. 21, the Balfour Bears, 47-14 in Regina (Stewart Conf.). Bishop James Mahoney also came away city champions with their victory, 44-12, over Marion Graham in Saskatoon (5a). BJM enters this regional final with a +/- of 96 points. Greenall’s +/- is 179 points, in fact, they have only had 9 points scored on them all season. We know BJM has multiple CFC100s on their team, some of which played in the CFC Prospect Game that was broadcast on TSN this past June, however, as we have observed all season, Greenall will be tough to beat with their own arsenal of athletes on their roster. We would be interested to see how this one shakes out on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1:30pm CST.

No. 10 Yorkton Raider Gridders (7-0) v. UR Swift Current (4-2)

This is the first year that we have really followed the 12-man rural teams of Saskatchewan and it’s been a pleasure. The Raider Gridders beat Weyburn, 35-0, in their semifinal last weekend and Swift Current also was victorious against Moose Jaw Central, 10-2. Yorkton beat MJ Central 19-16 for their final regular season game, so you can see how close these two teams may actually be. Yorkton’s +/- is 194, while Swift Current’s is 105. There is a lot on the line here as the winner of this game goes on to host the Provincial Championship on Nov. 9th. The opponent of that game will be either Greenall or BJM (game above). We will find out who walks away Kings of Rural Saskatchewan on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 2:00pm CST.

*Manitoba – Portage, Miles Mac play #4 seeds in the WHSFL quarterfinals.
*New Brunswick – l’Odyssee v. TBD playoff
*Nova Scotia – Sydney earned 1st round playoff bye
