Granville Eastman making his mark in the NCAA

Granville Eastman has been a Canadian on a mission ever since jumping from York University to the NCAA. Eastman is in his 9th season with Austin Peay (FCS), his seventh as defensive coordinator. He just completed his 4th internship with an NFL team, this time being with the Indianapolis Colts.

As part of the NFL’s Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship, Eastman has interned with the Detroit Lions (2002), Arizona Cardinals (2004), Tennessee Titans (2006) and this season with the Colts.

With the Colts Eastman had some ‘Canadian’ connections with three other members of the organization. Colts linebacker coach Mike Murphy was an assistant coach with the Saskatchewan Roughriders from 1973 to 1983. Bill Polian, Colts President, was the personnel director for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1983 and 1984 (grey cup champs in ’84). Cal Murphy, a scout for the Colts, coached in the CFL for most seasons between 1974 and 1999.

Eastman graduated from CIS program St. Mary’s in 1994. Before that he played his high school football at Toronto’s Leacock High school.

Eastman served one year as a volunteer coach at York University in Toronto before deciding to pursue a coaching career. He served as graduate assistant at Arkansas State (1995-98) before going to working at Tiffin in 1999 (1999-2003).

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
