Graves, Gray and Lauther named Week 1 AUS Football Players of the Week


Acadia quarterback Kyle Graves, Saint Mary’s defensive lineman Wyatt Gray and place kicker/punter Brett Lauther have been named the Week 1 AUS Football Players of the Week for the period ending September 11th, 2011.

Offensive Player of the Week

Quarterback Kyle Graves of the Acadia Axemen is the Atlantic University Sport Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 11th, 2011. Graves, a fourth year pivot from Barrie, ON, completed 18-of-27 passes for 301 yards and three touchdowns this past weekend in a 43-10 road win over the StFX X-Men in Antigonish, NS. Kyle also picked up 21 yards rushing on two carries and averaged 33.7 yards on seven punts in the game. Graves found receiver Michael Squires for a pair of TD’s and also hooked up with AJ Durling for a major. His three touchdown passes covered 9, 31 and 16 yards respectively.

Defensive Player of the Week

Saint Mary’s defensive lineman Wyatt Gray is the Atlantic University Sport Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 11th, 2011. Gray, a first year student-athlete from Calgary, AB, recorded 5.0 tackles, including three sacks for a loss of 20 yards Friday evening, as the CIS No. 8-ranked Huskies defeated the Mount Allison Mounties 54-14 in the season-opener for both teams. His 3.0 sacks currently leads the AUS conference and is ranks him second in CIS sacks after just one weekend of play.

Special Teams Player of the Week

Brett Lauther

6’1″, 195 lbs.
Truro, NS

Punter and place kicker Brett Lauther of the CIS No. 8-ranked Saint Mary’s Huskies is the Atlantic University Sport Special Teams Player of the Week. Lauther, a second year player from Truro, NS, scored a total of 16 points this past weekend in a season-opening 54-14 home victory over the Mount Allison Mounties. Brett connected on three field goals (41, 35 and 25 yards), added four PAT’s and averaged 43.6 yards on nine punts in the win. Lauther, who leads the conference in scoring after the first week of play, also averaged 60.0 yards on his seven kickoffs.
