Grenadier joins the Golden Hawks

Laurier welcomes eastern Ontario commit to their 2017 class.

Taylor Stalkie, a linebacker from Napanee District High School, won’t need much time adjusting to his new team mascot after committing to the Laurier Golden Hawks.

During high school, Stalkie played with the Napanee District HS Golden Hawks in the Kingston Area Secondary School Athletics Association. Now, he will continue to fly with Laurier, having been drawn into the closeness of the nest. He said that, “I committed to Laurier because of the atmosphere I was surrounded by. It really is a school where everybody knows everybody.”

Stalkie added that he decided on Laurier after speaking with the coaching and the players. He also believes the team will afford him the best opportunities on and off the field. “Laurier had one of the best defences in the country, and after seeing the direction the coaching staff are taking it, I wanted to be apart of the process,” he said.

The young athlete has high admiration for the coaching staff. He said, “I believe Laurier has some of the best coaching staff in the country. With Head Coach Faulds being named Coach of The Year, and the knowledge of Coach Cameron and Coach Alexander, I feel that I have the best opportunity to reach the highest level that I can.”

The future political science student added that, “The coaching staff wanted me not only as a football player, but as a person as well. That really came down to one of the defining factors for my decision.”

The 6’0, 202lbs football player spent his OVFL career with the Kingston Grenadiers. He was an OVFL finalist and KASSA finalist in 2016. Also in this year, the product of Camden East, Ontario hit the gridiron with Team Ontario in the International Bowl and was a Team Ontario Top 90 Selectee. He also held that honour in 2015. In 2015, he captained the #CFCFPC Team East Junior Varsity squad.

(Camden East is a hamlet north-west of Kingston.)
