Grey Cup 108: Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Hamilton Tiger-Cats feature 12 CFC100 graduates

It’s an exciting week for Canadian football fans as we get ready to celebrate the 108th Grey Cup in Hamilton with this year’s edition featuring a rematch of the 2019 finale as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers look to repeat in hostile territory against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

We’re happy to report there will also be plenty of CFC100 high school graduates to watch on Sunday night, including CFC100 OL Darius Ciraco, who’s already started 46 games during his three year career with the Ticats, and also made the tough switch from guard to centre this season. Not far behind him is CFC100 OL Drew Desjarlais, who’s becoming a stalwart in the Bombers lineup starting 24 games since being drafted fourth overall in the 2019 CFL Draft, and could be a future Outstanding Lineman Nominee.

Other CFC100 standouts for the Cats have been LB Nic Cross, who led the team in special teams tackles with 17 as a rookie, and fellow first year star LS Gordon Whyte who’s taken over full-time duties as the long snapper after returning to St. FX in 2019. Lastly OL Coulter Woodmansey found his opportunity to shine late in his rookie season taking over starting duties at right guard, and should get the nod again on the biggest stage of all.

On the other side of the field, the Bombers got a huge boost from CFC100 RB Brady Oliveira to begin the year with RB Andrew Harris forced to the sidelines due to suspension, and Hamilton fans won’t forget the 126 yard performance he put together against them in their week one victory. He’s now been reduced to the backup role with Harris back in the fold, but expect him to get a couple chances that could turn into explosive plays. The same can be said for CFC100 DE Jonathan Kongbo, who’s been a rotation player for Winnipeg all season with high efficiency grabbing 16 tackles and three sacks.

Will one of our CFC100 graduates make the difference on Sunday? Tune into the 108th Grey Cup on TSN at 6pm EST.
