Gryphons bring in well-versed QB

Guelph welcomes a southern Ontario commit to their Class of 2017.

Alex Brophy, a quarterback from St. Marcellinus Secondary School, is ready to tack on another team to his growing list, this time at the U Sports level with the University of Guelph Gryphons.

It was with open arms that the Gryphons welcomed their newest commit. “Guelph is a great school,” Brophy said. “They were incredibly welcoming and truly made me feel like apart of the Gryphons family from the beginning of my visit.”

The nine-year veteran has seen his fair shares of teams and coaches, but there is something special about the Gryphon’s staff. “The coaches are all great and incredible coaches. From what I can tell, they are not just coaches, but they’re also great mentors to all the players,” the future real estate and housing student said.

Standing at 6’3, 180lbs, Brophy decided on doing a victory lap with the St. Marcellinus Spirt (Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association.) Prior to his time with the Spirit, the Erindale Raiders (ROPSSAA) were his primary high school team. He has also suited up for the Halton Cowboys (OVFL), the Hamilton Ironmen (OVFL) and the Mississauga Warriors (OVFL). Originally from Mississauga, Ontario, he has won a 2016 ROPSSAA Championship and two MVP awards with the Raiders.
