Gryphons sign local recruit

Guelph receiver joins OUA team’s 2015 class.

Recently, the Guelph Gryphons announced the signing of Noel Amaya to their football program.

Amaya, the 6’1, 200 pound receiver/running back from Guelph, Ontario, will join the team for the 2015 OUA season.

“Noel is a great local talent; he helped lead his High School team to a District 10 Championship playing just about every position for them,” commented Gryphons Offensive Coordinator Todd Galloway.  “He will come in and learn and develop as an H back type for us and we have high hopes for his future.”

The local offensive recruit comes to the Gryphons after completing his high school career with Guelph’s District 10’s Our Lady of Lourdes Crusaders of the Central Western Ontario Secondary School Association (CWOSSA). This past season, he racked up over 800 combined receiving and rushing yards as well as scored 12 touchdowns.

In addition to the Crusaders, Amaya has suited up for the junior varsity Guelph Gryphons of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC).  He has previously played at the kicker, punter and defensive back (cornerback, halfback) positions.

For Amaya, playing for his local hometown CIS team was too good of an opportunity for him to pass up.

“I committed to Guelph because they have a great team,” expressed the Ontario receiver.  “They never disappoint about having a good season.”

“It was always exciting watching them play. Some of the players coached my varsity team and they are all about discipline. I have learned a lot from them and I know that there’s much more to learn. In high school, I played with and against many of the players on the Gryphon team so it is nice to be able to get back on the field with them. It’s a bonus that I get to stay in my hometown and play with a talented and organized team. That way my family and friends will hopefully be able to watch me play.”
