Ronald began playing football three years ago.  It was not until his high school coaches convinced him to trade in his basketball for a football, citing his natural athletic ability would make him a natural at the defensive back position.

“Ever since then, I’ve never looked back,” proclaims Ronald. Looking back is what Ronald did not do, his play this season was rewarded when he was named the D10 all-star defensive back MVP.

He credits his coaches and teammates at St. James Catholic High School for shaping him into the player and defensive back he is today.

“There is so much talent on this team that every day at practice, it was like a tryout, everyone would fight for their positions, nothing was given, and so I taught myself to lead by example,” said Ronald.

Having the attitude that nothing is given speaks volumes for this young rising star. It shows the type of character that Ronald possesses and brings to the table, practice and field. Leaders and leadership is often hard to find, yet Ronald is mature beyond his years and realizes that if you want something, you have to go and get it.

“The aspect that I thrive on is the fact that I like to let my game speak for itself; I lead by example and I drive myself to be the best I can be every day,” said Ronald.

Ronald now focuses on bringing his talent, character and leadership to Waterloo Ontario as he has committed to donning the purple and yellow of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.

“I decided to go to Laurier, because of the people, the atmosphere, the history and the way they make me feel like I was part of a family,” said Ronald.  “From the first time I stepped on to campus, they treated me like a brother, I felt at home and I felt like it was the right place for me.”

“They had the right program that I needed and the program that best suited my academic strengths. The football program here is a great fit for me, as the program is rebuilding, I cannot express how excited I am to contribute right away.”

Ronald is ready for the challenge.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
