WATERLOO, Ont. – The 2010-11 CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District Teams for men’s football have been selected, as announced on November 4th by the Academic All-America Committee.
Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawk receiver Dillon Heap of Waterloo, Ont. has been named to ESPN’s Academic All-America District team. The fourth year business major was named to the second team of District Five in the college division.
Heap posted an 11.4 GPA to be named to the second team as a receiver. This is Laurier’s first ESPN Academic All-America award since the program changed how Canadian schools were categorized.
Heap is the only Canadian football player to earn an Academic All-America award this season.
The two time academic all-Canadian led the Golden Hawks in receiving this season with 466 yards on 41 receptions. Laurier will play the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the OUA semifinal on Saturday, October 6th at 1 p.m.
Nominations and voting for the All-America programs are conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. There is a University Division (Division I programs) and a College Division (DII, DIII, NAIA, NJCAA programs).
Three Academic All-District teams are chosen in each district, with those on the All-District first teams placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
